The second edition of this book represents an excellent summation of the current state of nursing informatics, while demonstrating the rapid trajectory of this specialty. Nursing informatics (NI) has evolved from a grass-roots activity supported primarily by nurses with on-the-job training to become a formalized and highly differentiated nursing practice built on a foundation of care coordination, effective communication, and strategic leadership. What we once thought of as the future has now represented itself in the present wherein technology and innovation are pervasive.
